DC 40 Search Check to Find Encumbrance
It seems difficult to get to key nuggets of very specific, very nitpicky, but very necessary information throughout the game. Feats, the super-traits that help define a character, often include their exact rules effects in their descriptions, but not always. And they don't list what other feats they make available, making plotting a character's advancement tough. These are all bits of information you can find, but it involves opening up your pen and paper rules and going through those - exactly what D&D fans are hoping to not have to do, and exactly what non-D&D fans absolutely aren't going to do. I'm hoping this gets changed before release, and I think it's feasible. A pop-up that warns "You will be encumbered if you loot this, y/n?" should at least be an option. One that also says "And then that Orc will totally catch you this round, and you'll be trapped in melee, and that's no good for your spellcaster, so don't do it, okay?" wouldn't hurt either. At the very least a warning when you're about to cripple your character is necessary.
Although I didn't get enough copies of the UMD to do multiplayer testing, one exciting feature is that you can play through the entire campaign in co-op, eliminating one other issue - trying to set up the camera to follow each and every character. It's really a nuisance to fight the camera into position to get one character right where you need them and then have to struggle all over again with the next one. There are also going to be some adversarial modes, and eventual downloadable content. It's a lot of exciting potential, particularly if Atari sneaks in a single-disc multiplayer mode. Maybe a sample level?
Noting that I'm a huge fan of tactics games and of D&D, I'm really excited for the retail release of D&D Tactics. It's already an admirably playable and fun d20 simulator, which has been a consistent hurdle for games like this. With some fine-tuning to the user interface to nail the few niggling issues, this'll be a level 20 Tactics Game in no time.
